Liyuu

Description
Liyuu, born on January 9, 1997, in Shanghai, China, is a multifaceted entertainer active in both China and Japan, working as a voice actor, singer, and cosplayer. She is affiliated with the talent agency HoriPro International and the music label Lantis. Her journey into Japanese pop culture began in childhood, with early exposure to anime such as Cardcaptor Sakura, Shugo Chara!, and Reborn!. A pivotal moment came during her middle school years when she watched K-On!, sparking an interest in the character Yui Hirasawa and leading her to discover cosplay. She began cosplaying in high school, with Yui as her first character, and her early alias was "黎狱" (Lí yù), a name that sounds similar to her current stage name. While in high school, she also began posting song covers on the video platform Bilibili, nurturing an interest in music that had started in her younger years.

Liyuu's professional path was set in motion during her university years, where she studied design. In 2018, while a senior, she signed with Horipro International. After graduating in 2019, she moved to Japan to pursue her career. Her professional debut came in January 2020 as a singer with the release of her first single, Magic Words, which was used as the opening theme for the anime television series Hatena Illusion. She followed this later in the year with her second single, Carpe Diem, the ending theme for I'm Standing on a Million Lives. Prior to her solo debut, she had provided the singing voice for the character Siren in the mobile game Dragalia Lost in 2019.

Liyuu's most significant role as a voice actor arrived in December 2020, when she was cast as Keke Tang in the mixed-media project Love Live! Superstar!!. This casting was historic, as she became the first non-Japanese actor to play a main character in the entire Love Live! franchise. She has voiced Keke Tang across all seasons of the anime, which aired in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and in related mobile games such as Love Live! School Idol Festival. As part of the role, she is also a member of Liella!, the voice actor unit and real-life performing group associated with the series.

Beyond the Love Live! franchise, Liyuu's voice acting credits include minor roles in the 2019 Chinese-Japanese co-produced anime Abnormal Species and a 2020 appearance in I'm Standing on a Million Lives. In video games, she voiced Z女士 (Ms. Z) in the 2023 title Reverse: 1999. Her work also extends to live-action television; in 2024, she appeared in the Japanese drama Sugar Dog Life, playing the role of Shiorin.

Recurring collaborations are a key feature of her career. She is consistently associated with the Love Live! franchise and her fellow Liella! members. Additionally, she has a musical partnership with the group JUVENILE, collaborating on tracks like Mirror Rouge and Lemonade. As a radio personality, she has hosted her own program, Liyuu no Hatsuraji, since 2021, and has been a regular on various Love Live!-related radio shows.

Liyuu's achievements are notable in both music and voice acting. She has released a successful series of solo singles and albums, with several, including TRUE FOOL LOVE and Bloomin', charting in the top ten on Oricon's weekly charts. Her music has been featured as theme songs for multiple anime series, including More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers and The Devil Is a Part-Timer!! Season 2. She has held solo concerts in Japan and China, beginning with her first at Pacifico Yokohama in 2022. Her work has also been recognized with awards, such as the Excellent Virtual Idol Award at the 2022 Weibo Japan Microparty. Through her work, Liyuu has established herself as a prominent figure bridging the entertainment worlds of China and Japan.
