Simadoriru
Description
Simadoriru, also known by the romanization Shimadoriru, is a Japanese illustrator, manga artist, and character designer. He is a male creator and the founder of the doujin circle Stripe Pattern. He graduated from the Department of Painting in the Faculty of Art at Tokyo Zokei University in March 2010. In 2018, he became a member of the creative studio Tookyo Games, founded by key figures such as Kazutaka Kodaka.
Simadoriru is best known as one of the five core creators behind the multimedia franchise Chaos Dragon. The project originated from a tabletop role-playing game titled Red Dragon, which was played over six days in 2011. Alongside renowned writers Gen Urobuchi, Kinoko Nasu, Ryohgo Narita, and Izuki Kogyoku, Simadoriru participated as a player and was responsible for character design and art direction. The sessions were supervised by Makoto Sanda as the game master. The results of this collaborative storytelling were later adapted into a seven-volume light novel series and, in 2015, into a twelve-episode anime television series titled Chaos Dragon: Sekiryū Sen'eki. For the anime adaptation, Simadoriru was credited for the original character designs.
Beyond the Chaos Dragon franchise, Simadoriru has contributed illustrations for numerous light novels. His credits include the cover art for the Chaos Dragon novel series written by Makoto Sanda, as well as entries in the Danganronpa series such as Danganronpa: Kirigiri. He also provided illustrations for the role-playing fiction project Red Dragon and other tabletop RPG works, including Kyōmei-sei Kaii TRPG.
In the video game industry, Simadoriru has worked on character design for major titles. He was involved with Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, and more recently served as the character designer for the 2025 murder mystery visual novel Shuten Order, developed by Tookyo Games and Spike Chunsoft. For Shuten Order, he aimed to create a disturbing yet captivating world, deliberately avoiding heavy, detailed illustrations in favor of vivid color schemes and a high volume of hand-drawn still illustrations.
His artistic identity is closely tied to the indie doujin scene and high-profile collaborative franchises. A recurring theme in his professional work is his involvement in transmedia projects that originate from tabletop gaming sessions, bridging the gap between niche hobbyist culture and mainstream anime production. As a member of Tookyo Games, he continues to work alongside prominent figures like Kazutaka Kodaka, contributing a distinctive visual style characterized by expressive, hand-drawn linework and a focus on character-driven narratives.
