Mayu Hotta

Description
Mayu Hotta is a Japanese actress and voice actress born on April 2, 1998, in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. She began her entertainment career after being selected for the WOWOW Drama Award at the Amuse agency's Audition Festival in 2014, making her acting debut the following year. Prior to entering the industry, she trained in ballet for approximately ten years, from the age of six.

While Hotta is primarily known for her extensive work in live-action television dramas and films, she made her debut as a voice actor in 2022. Her first and most prominent voice acting role to date is as the lead character, Tamaki Tsuru, in the animated film Blue Thermal. In this coming-of-age story, Tamaki is a university freshman who unexpectedly joins the aviation club and discovers a passion for flying gliders. This role marked a significant career milestone, as it was her first experience with voice performance for an animated work. During the recording process, she noted the difference between voice acting and her usual on-camera performances, initially finding it surprising to hear her own voice paired with the animated visuals. She was cast alongside established voice actors such as Nobunaga Shimazaki, Junya Enoki, and Mikako Komatsu for the film.

Hotta's career is characterized by a steady progression of roles in various media. She has played supporting parts in film adaptations of popular manga, including Ai Hayasaka in the 2019 live-action films Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and its 2021 sequel, and Serina Kanno in the 2021 film Honey Lemon Soda. On television, she has appeared in several high-profile NHK productions, including the morning drama Warotenka in 2017 and the taiga drama The 13 Lords of the Shogun in 2022. In addition to acting, she has been an exclusive model for the fashion magazine non-no since March 2020.

For her work in the entertainment industry, Mayu Hotta has received recognition, winning the Best Newcomer award at the 45th Yokohama Film Festival and being named Newcomer of the Year at the 48th Elan d'or Awards, both in 2024.
