Shinya Umemura is a Japanese manga writer best known as the original creator of the series Record of Ragnarok. His work on this title has established him as a significant figure in the creation of modern fantasy and action manga, with the series gaining a large international following. Umemura has also created spinoff series set in the Record of Ragnarok universe, including Shuumatsu no Valkyrie Ibun - Ryo Fu Housen Hishouden (2019) which focuses on the warrior Lu Bu, and Shuumatsu no Valkyrie Kitan - Jack the Ripper no Jikenbo (2022). His other works include Tenshou no Ryoma (2009), a historical drama exploring an alternate history for the visionary Sakamoto Ryouma, and the post-apocalyptic survival story Shuumatsu, Nani Taberu? (2025).
