Ajichika

Description
Ajichika is the collective pen name of a four-person manga artist group. The unit is primarily known for their illustration work on several manga series, having gained significant recognition as the artist for the popular series Record of Ragnarok. Their involvement in this capacity began after a selection process where their distinctive artistic style was chosen to bring the story to life.

The group's most notable and long-running work is Record of Ragnarok, known in some regions as Valkyrie Apocalypse, which began serialization in 2017 in Monthly Comic Zenon. The series is credited with story by Takumi Fukui and Shinya Umemura, with Ajichika providing the illustrations. The manga has been collected into over twenty volumes. This series served as the source material for the anime adaptation Record of Ragnarok, with Ajichika receiving credit as the original illustrator for the series. A second season was released, and a third season has been announced as in production.

Following the success of Record of Ragnarok, Ajichika served as the illustrator for the manga Shin Gunjō Senki, based on a story by Masaki Kasahara, which was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2021 to 2022. In 2025, the group began work on a new series titled Maerchen Crown, a fantasy romance story created in collaboration with writer Aka Akasaka and writer Aoi Kujira. For this project, Ajichika is again credited as the illustrator, and the series launched in Weekly Young Jump. Beyond manga, the group has also contributed illustrations for a light novel.

The artistic identity of Ajichika is characterized by a bold and dynamic style. Their work is noted for unique character designs and especially for the intense, heart-stopping expressions of their characters, which are considered a signature element that makes their art instantly recognizable. This visual approach has been described as having an X-factor that is particularly well-suited to the exaggerated, high-stakes battle narratives of their most famous work. In Maerchen Crown, their involvement is evident in the visual richness and detailed character designs that evoke the feeling of classic fairy tales. The group's role is consistently that of an illustration unit, collaborating with separate writers for the story and composition of their projects.
