Luis Manuel Ávila

Description
Luis Manuel Ávila is a Mexican actor and voice actor recognized for his versatile career across television, theater, and dubbing. He was born on January 30, 1971, in Mexico City. While he is widely known for his live-action comedic roles, particularly as Junior P. Luche in the sketch comedy series La familia P. Luche and Tomás Mora in the telenovela La fea más bella, he has also built a significant body of work in anime and animation dubbing.

Ávila's entry into the world of dubbing began in 2008. His first voice role in animation was the character Caballero de Cerberus in the series Los Guerreros del Zodiaco: El lienzo perdido, an invitation extended to him by fellow actor Gabriel Cobayassi. Since then, he has lent his voice to a variety of characters in popular anime franchises. His notable roles include Gamakichi, Sakon, and Ukon in the Naruto series, Ideo in One Piece, and the Caballero de Cerberus in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. His work also extends to other animated series such as Raoul, el Toro de Piedra in Miraculous and Filip Schaff in Invincible, as well as the character Di Rinje in the video game Honor of Kings.

A pivotal moment in Ávila's dubbing career came with the 2022 film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Following the tragic passing of Luis Alfonso Mendoza, the longstanding voice of the character Son Gohan, a extensive search was conducted to find a new voice actor. Ávila was selected after a competitive casting process overseen by dubbing director Lalo Garza, who noted that the goal was to find an actor who could capture the essence of Gohan without imitating Mendoza's performance. Ávila's casting was met with considerable attention from fans, a phenomenon he experienced firsthand when the announcement and trailer release became trending topics. He has described taking on the role as a dream and a significant moment in his career, studying the character's history to prepare for the part.

For his work on Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Ávila joined an ensemble of established voice actors from the franchise's Latin Spanish dub, including Mario Castañeda as Goku, René García as Vegeta, and Carlos Segundo as Piccolo. This collaboration placed him among some of the most recognized voices in the industry for this long-running series. His involvement with the Dragon Ball franchise has also led to his participation in fan conventions, where he engages directly with audiences as the new voice of Gohan.
