Description
Sachiko Takeuchi is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator from Tokyo who has created a diverse body of work spanning comedy, slice-of-life, and autobiographical genres. Her career includes an early achievement as the winner of the third Da Vinci Comic Essay Petit Award. Takeuchi was born in 1982 and has been open about her personal interests, which include art, music, and anime, as well as her longstanding romantic interest in women since her junior high school years.

Takeuchi is best known as the original creator of the manga Aka-chan Honbuchou, which was adapted into the short-form television anime series General Manager of Baby. The original web comic was serialized in Kodansha’s Baby Mofu web magazine from 2017 to 2020, with its third and final compiled volume published in February 2020. The story presents a surreal comedic premise: a 47-year-old corporate general manager named Takeda suddenly transforms into a baby, though his mental faculties remain unchanged, and he continues to perform his duties with the assistance of his subordinates.

The anime adaptation of General Manager of Baby premiered on NHK General TV in March 2021, consisting of eight episodes each approximately five minutes in length. The production staff included Tomovies handling animation production, with NHK Enterprises and Telecom Staff involved in production and planning. Actor Ken Yasuda provided the voice for the protagonist, General Manager Takeda. The anime’s success led to subsequent seasons, with a second season and a third series following in 2022. The copyright for the work is credited to Takeuchi, Kodansha, and the production consortium of NHK, NEP, and Telecom Staff.

Beyond General Manager of Baby, Takeuchi’s manga bibliography includes a wide range of titles that often explore everyday life, workplace dynamics, and personal relationships. Her works include 2DK, a slice-of-life series serialized from 2013 to 2016; Honey & Honey, a yuri manga from 2005 to 2006 that offers an autobiographical look at an adult lesbian couple; Dame BL, a comedy-drama from 2011; and Mangaka Gohan Nisshi, a series about a manga artist’s daily life serialized from 2015 to 2016.
