Miki Imai

Description
Miki Imai is a Japanese pop singer, actress, and voice actress born on April 14, 1963 in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. She began her career in 1983 as a model before moving into television dramas and films in 1984. While primarily known as a singer, she has taken on a small number of voice acting roles in animated films.

Imai is best known for her leading voice role as Taeko Okajima, the adult protagonist of the acclaimed 1991 Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday, directed by Isao Takahata. The film follows a twenty-seven-year-old office worker who travels to the countryside and reflects on the joys and frustrations of her childhood. This role stands as her most significant contribution to anime.

Her other major voice role came in 2006, when she provided a voice for the fantasy anime film Brave Story. Unlike many voice actors who specialize in anime, Imai's involvement in voice acting has been intermittent, with her primary career focused on her successful music and live-action acting work.

Throughout her career, Imai has maintained a presence in the Japanese entertainment industry. She has released numerous albums and singles, with her recording career beginning in 1986. Her work in Only Yesterday remains a notable achievement, as the film was a surprise box office success and became the highest-grossing Japanese film of 1991 in the country.
