Sou Sagara

Description
Sou Sagara is a Japanese novelist and manga author born on August 22, 1986. He resides in Tokyo and has an interest in shogi, the game of Japanese chess. His professional debut occurred in 2010 when he won the 6th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award’s highest honor for his work, The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat. This series, illustrated by Kantoku, became his breakout work and was published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint. The series concluded after thirteen volumes in March 2019.

The success of The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat led to an expanded media franchise. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Okomeken, was serialized in Monthly Comic Alive beginning in 2011. An anime television adaptation produced by J.C.Staff aired for twelve episodes from April to June 2013. In the production of this anime, Sagara is credited as the original creator.

Beyond this debut series, Sagara has authored several other light novel series. These include The Scum and the Gold Coin of QUALIDEA, written in collaboration with fellow author Wataru Watari, and the two-volume series That World Can Go to Hell -QUALIDEA CODE-, both illustrated by Kantoku. His other novel works are The Lonely Loli Vampire, illustrated by Kuroboshi Kouhaku, and a series titled Can Being Threatened by a Student Be Called a Crime?, illustrated by Momoko. In the realm of manga, he has served as the original creator for the series The Sound of Our Future and, together with another writer, co-authored the series Kikyō Shōjo.

Sagara’s creative contributions also extend to anime screenwriting. He has written scripts for several television series, including for episodes of QUALIDEA CODE, Girlish Number, The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady, and Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective. In 2016, he was part of a creative group called Speakeasy alongside novelists Koushi Tachibana and Wataru Watari to work on the Project QUALIDEA multimedia franchise.

In 2022, a novel authored by Sagara was temporarily recalled by its publisher after it was determined that some text inadvertently contained phrases from another author’s work due to a clerical error in the writing process. The publisher issued an apology and conducted a voluntary recall of the book.
