Temuera Morrison

Description
Temuera Morrison is a New Zealand actor who has built a notable career in voice acting alongside his extensive work in live-action film and television. Born in Rotorua, New Zealand, he first gained widespread recognition for his powerful live-action performances, particularly in the film Once Were Warriors. His voice acting career is distinguished by his long-standing association with the Star Wars franchise and his contribution to representing Polynesian culture in major animated features.

Morrison's most significant and recurring voice role is within the Star Wars universe, a connection that began with his live-action portrayal of the bounty hunter Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. For that film, he also provided the voice for the clone troopers, who are genetically based on his character. He has since become the definitive voice for Jango Fett, his son Boba Fett, and numerous clone troopers across various projects. This includes re-recording the dialogue for Boba Fett in the 2004 DVD release of The Empire Strikes Back, replacing the original actor's voice. He has voiced these characters in numerous video games as well, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars: Battlefront, and Star Wars: Republic Commando.

In the realm of anime, Morrison brought his iconic status to the medium by voicing Boba Fett in the Star Wars: Visions anthology series. He appears in the English dub of the episode titled Tatooine Rhapsody, which was produced by the anime studio Studio Colorido. This role marks a direct intersection of his live-action legacy with the anime art form, introducing his vocal portrayal of the character to a new stylistic context.

Beyond the galaxy far, far away, Morrison has a prominent voice role in one of Disney's most successful animated musicals. He is the voice of Chief Tui, the father of the titular character, in the 2016 film Moana. This role allowed him to draw upon his own heritage, as he has discussed using his experiences as a father to bring warmth and authenticity to the character. He reprised the role for the film's sequel, Moana 2, in 2024. His performance in Moana contributed to the film's celebrated representation of Polynesian culture. His work on the film was recognized with a BTVA People's Choice Voice Acting Award for Best Vocal Ensemble in a Feature Film in 2017.

Morrison's other voice work includes the animated film Mosley, where he voiced the character Warfield, and the New Zealand animated series The Barefoot Bandits, in which he played the role of Jack Tepania. He also voiced a character in the 2021 animated film The Legend of the Ox. In live-action, he continues to appear in major franchises, playing Thomas Curry, the father of Aquaman, in the DC Extended Universe films.

Throughout his career, Temuera Morrison has leveraged his distinctive voice and cultural background to create memorable characters in animation. His work is characterized by a strong connection to his Maori heritage and a versatility that ranges from the stoicism of a legendary bounty hunter to the gentle authority of a Polynesian chief.
