Karen Fukuhara is an American actress and voice actress known for her work in both live-action and animated productions. Born in Los Angeles, California, on February 10, 1992, she is the daughter of Japanese parents and her first language was Japanese. She attended Japanese language school on Saturdays for eleven years and began practicing karate in middle school. Fukuhara's career in entertainment began early when she was cast as a host for the Disney Channel program Movie Surfers. She later attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Theater, while also working as a sports reporter for the Japanese network NHK.
Fukuhara has built a substantial career in voice acting for animation. She is widely recognized for voicing the lead character Kipo Oak in the Netflix animated series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. Another prominent role is Princess Glimmer in the Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, a reboot of the 1985 series. In 2023, she voiced the main character, Haru, in the Netflix stop-motion animated series Pokémon Concierge. She also contributed her voice to the English dub of the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film The Boy and the Heron, playing the role of Lady Himi. Her voice work includes roles in series such as Craig of the Creek, Archer, Alice's Wonderland Bakery, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. In the video game The Callisto Protocol, she provided both the voice and performance capture for the character Dani Nakamura.
A specific example of her work in anime is her role in the Star Wars: Visions anthology series. Fukuhara provided the English voice for the character F in the short film titled The Village Bride, which was released on Disney+ in 2021.
