Wataru Momose

Description
Wataru Momose is a manga creator known for the series Romantic Killer, which gained significant attention following its adaptation as an original net animation on Netflix in 2022. Momose uses the Japanese name 百世渡. The creator's professional debut in the manga industry occurred in 2019 with the launch of Romantic Killer, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital magazine. This series earned recognition by winning first place in the Shonen Jump Vertical Scroll Manga Award.

Romantic Killer, a romantic comedy, was Momose’s first major work and was published in four collected volumes between 2019 and 2020. The story centers on a high school girl named Anzu Hoshino, whose life is upended by a magical creature that removes her favorite hobbies and forces her into situations with potential romantic interests. The series was notable for its use of full-color artwork throughout its original serialization and collected editions. Its success led to a 12-episode anime produced by the studio Domerica, which was released globally on Netflix in October 2022.

Following the conclusion of Romantic Killer, Momose continued to create new series for Shonen Jump+. From 2022 to 2023, Momose published Me and My Gangster Neighbor (Boku to Jingi Naki Ojisan), which was collected into four volumes. In early 2025, Momose launched a new romantic comedy titled Saneka no Yomeiri (Saneka’s Marriage) on the same platform, with a story involving a boy and a raccoon dog deity in a traditional Japanese house setting. Another work, Boy Meets Shark, was published as a one-shot in 2021. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on comedy and romantic themes.

Momose's artistic identity is characterized by the use of bright, full-color art in series that blend humor with character-driven romantic plots. The creator’s works are often noted for their relatively concise, multi-volume format and the ability to generate a significant international audience, with English-language editions published by Viz Media.
