Patora Fuyuhara
Description
Patora Fuyuhara is a Japanese novelist best known as the original creator of the light novel, manga, and anime series In Another World With My Smartphone. Fuyuhara first began writing the series as a web novel on the user-generated content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in April 2013. The story proved popular, eventually leading to a print publication deal. The light novel series, featuring illustrations by Eiji Usatsuka, was officially launched by Hobby Japan under its HJ Novels imprint in May 2015 and remains ongoing.
The commercial success of the light novels led to a multimedia franchise expansion. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Soto, began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Comp Ace magazine in November 2016. This was followed by an anime television series adaptation. The first season, produced by the studio Production Reed, aired from July to September 2017. A second season, produced by J.C.Staff, later aired from April to June 2023.
The narrative premise of In Another World With My Smartphone is a foundational example of the isekai genre. The story follows a teenage boy who is accidentally killed by a deity and, as an apology, is reincarnated in a fantasy world with his smartphone, which has been modified to work with magic. This central concept of a modern device brought into a magical setting is the signature theme most closely associated with Fuyuhara's work. The series has been licensed for English release in North America, with the light novels published digitally and in print by J-Novel Club and the manga published by Yen Press. The work has contributed significantly to the popularization of the isekai genre's modern tropes during the mid-2010s.
