Hazuki Takeoka

Description
Hazuki Takeoka is a Japanese novelist, manga writer, and light novel author born on August 10, 1979, in Tokyo, Japan. She is primarily known as the original creator and writer behind the romantic comedy series Masamune-kun's Revenge.

Takeoka began her career writing light novels and later expanded into manga. Her most prominent work is Masamune-kun's Revenge, which she created as a manga series with illustrator Tiv. The original manga was serialized in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Rex magazine from October 2012 to June 2018, spanning ten main volumes. Takeoka also wrote a light novel adaptation of the series, published in December 2013, with illustrations also by Tiv. The franchise continued with a sequel spinoff manga, Masamune-kun's Revenge After School, which ran from September 2018 to January 2019, and a later sequel series titled Masamune-kun's Revenge Engagement, serialized from April to December 2023.

The success of the manga led to anime adaptations. The first anime television series, produced by Silver Link, aired from January to March 2017, followed by an original video animation in 2018. A second season, Masamune-kun's Revenge R, premiered in July 2023, with Takeoka again receiving original work credit.

Beyond the Masamune-kun's Revenge franchise, Takeoka launched another manga series, Kyō, Koshiba Aoi ni Aetara (titled Chasing After Aoi Koshiba in English), in November 2018. This series, illustrated by Fly, is a yuri romance story centered on two high school girls. It represents a thematic departure from her earlier work, focusing on the intense emotions of youth and lesbian romance.

Takeoka's body of work includes numerous other titles, such as the SH@PPLE light novel and manga series, Fractal Child, Water Song, My Fair Sister, and several other manga and novel projects. She works across multiple genres, including romantic comedy, school-life stories, and yuri. Her consistent collaborator on the Masamune-kun series has been illustrator Tiv, with whom she has maintained a long-term creative partnership. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed Masamune-kun's Revenge for English publication in North America.

Takeoka is the sister of illustrator Miho Takeoka, who is known for her work on light novel illustrations. Her creative identity is defined by her focus on character-driven romantic narratives, often exploring themes of personal transformation, revenge, and the complexities of young adult relationships.
