Hiroshi Negishi

Hiroshi Negishi is a Japanese animation director, storyboard artist, and entrepreneur, known for his work across numerous television series, original video animations, and films from the 1980s through the 2010s. Born on July 18, 1960, in Tokyo, he graduated from the Tokyo Designer Academy before beginning his career in the animation industry. He sometimes credits his work under the names Negishi Hiroshi or the hiragana rendition Negishi Hiroshi.
Negishi’s early career included roles in production and direction at studios such as Toei Animation and Tatsunoko Production, where he worked on series like Armored Fleet Dairugger XV and Super Beast Machine God Dancouga. His directorial debut came with the 1987 OVA Ladius. In 1991, he became one of the founders of the studio Zero-G Room, which later evolved into Radix Ace Entertainment, allowing him to work both as a director and as a company executive. Following his departure from Radix in 2007, he founded a new iteration of the Zero-G studio in 2011 and later established the production company Saber Project in 2014.
As a director, Negishi has a broad filmography spanning multiple genres. He served as director for the television series Sonic Soldier Borgman (1988) and Tekkaman Blade (1992). His notable original works and adaptations include directing the OVA series K.O. Beast, the original video animation Master of Mosquiton, and serving as chief director for its television sequel, Master of Mosquiton '99. Other significant directing credits include the Tenchi Muyo! films and series, NG Knight Ramune & 40, Burn-Up W, Shadow Skill, and the television series Bakegyamon. His later directorial works include Ai Tenchi Muyo! (2014) and the film Jewelpet Attack Travel! (2022).
Throughout his career, Negishi frequently collaborated with screenwriter Satoru Akahori, a partnership that defined much of his output in the 1990s.
