Yun Kouga is a Japanese manga artist and character designer whose career spans several decades, beginning in the 1980s. Her professional name is a pen name; she was born Risa Kimura on July 9, 1965, in Tokyo, and is married to fellow manga artist Tatsuneko. Kouga’s career started in the world of dōjinshi, or self-published works, where she created fan comics for popular series such as Saint Seiya and Captain Tsubasa. She made her professional debut in 1986 with the original work Metal Heart.
Kouga is known for a diverse body of original manga that often blends romantic and dramatic themes. One of her early major successes was Earthian, a manga serialized from 1987 to 1994 that follows angels tasked with judging humanity, exploring complex themes of morality and forbidden love. Another notable original work is Genji, a manga that began in 1988 and was later adapted into a two-episode anime OVA in 1992.
