Kira Inugami

Description
Kira Inugami, also known by the circle name NECOTOXIN, is a Japanese manga artist, illustrator, and game原画家 (original picture artist) from Kyoto Prefecture. Born on May 14, though no year is publicly documented, she began her career as a hobbyist creating doujinshi and participating in cosplay before being discovered by game scenario writer SCA-自. After catching SCA-自's attention with her fan art on her personal website, she was invited to move from the Kansai region to the Kanto area to begin professional work as an原画家. Her professional debut came through illustrating a bundled manga for the game H2O, which led to a连载 (serialization) of the H2O manga in Monthly Comp Ace and the start of her career under a Kadokawa Shoten editor.

Inugami is best known as the illustrator for the manga series Ebiten: Kouritsu Ebisugawa Koukou Tenmonbu, frequently shortened to Ebiten. The series, which ran in Monthly Comp Ace from December 2008 to February 2013, was written by SCA-自 and published by Kadokawa Shoten across four volumes. The story follows Itsuki Noya, a new student who mistakenly joins what he believes to be the astronomy club, only to find a group of eccentric girls who are far more interested in otaku culture than celestial observation. The manga was adapted into a ten-episode original net animation (ONA) by AIC Classic, which streamed on niconico between July and September 2012. An additional OVA episode was later bundled with the fourth manga volume. Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series for North American distribution.

Beyond Ebiten, Inugami has built a significant body of work as an illustrator and character designer for light novels and visual novels. She is the artist behind the long-running light novel series Seitokai no Ichizon (Student Council's Discretion) by Sekina Aoi, published under Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. Her extensive work in the visual novel industry is closely tied to the brand KeroQ/Makura (often referred to as枕社), where she has contributed as a primary artist for numerous titles. These include Supreme Candy, where she was promoted to lead原画家 and was credited under the phonetic katakana name いぬがみきら, which she later explained was because the kanji for her pen name were considered difficult to read. Her other major game credits include Himawari no Kyōkai to Nagai Natsuyasumi, Majo Koi Nikki, and the acclaimed Sakura no Uta series (Sakura no Uta: Sakura no Mori no Ue o Mau and Sakura no Toki: Sakura no Mori no Shita o Ayumu). She has also released multiple artbooks, including the collections Lovers Ten, Seitokai no Ichizon: Kira Inugami Artworks, and her own NECOTOXIN-branded artbooks such as NekoDoku HOLIC and NekoDoku PARADE.

Artistically, Kira Inugami is recognized for a drawing style described as soft and萌え (moe), with a particular strength in creating cute and appealing character designs. Her style has often been compared to that of fellow artist Riko梱枝, with subtle differences in how they draw character eyes and hair highlights. Her long-standing collaboration with SCA-自 and her consistent work with KeroQ/Makura have made her a notable figure in the visual novel industry, where she is recognized for her loyalty to the brand even as other female artists departed. Her career exemplifies a successful trajectory from amateur doujin creator to a professional multi-disciplinary artist working across manga, light novels, and games.
