Hazuki Minase
Description
Hazuki Minase is a Japanese writer born on April 29, 1979, in Shunan, Yamaguchi Prefecture. His career began when he won the 10th Dengeki Novel Prize judges' encouragement award in 2003 for the work that would become his debut novel, Kekkaishi no Fuga, released in 2004. He is primarily known as a light novelist and manga writer, with his bibliography spanning over a decade and including multiple series published under ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint.
Minase is the author of several light novel series, including Kekkaishi no Fuga, Boku to Majo-shiki Apocalypse, and the subsequent works Ranzan Sakadzuka Sutekina Shoukougun and Ayuhara Nayami wa Yoku Nureru. His most recognized work in this medium is C3, also known as C3 -Cube x Cursed x Curious-, a series that was adapted into a 12-episode anime television series in 2011. This adaptation brought his original concept to a broader audience and remains a significant credit in his career.
Beyond his original novels, Minase has established a substantial career as a screenwriter for anime adaptations, particularly within the Fate franchise. He contributed scripts for all four television series in the Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya franchise, which aired between 2013 and 2016, as well as for its subsequent original video animations and theatrical films, including Sekka no Chikai (2017) and Licht - Namae no Nai Shoujo (2021). This work demonstrates his versatility as a creator who can both originate his own properties and contribute to established, large-scale multimedia franchises.
In a significant expansion of his creative scope, Minase became the writer for Final Fantasy Lost Stranger, the first original manga set in the Final Fantasy universe, which began serialization in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan in July 2017. The series, illustrated by Itsuki Kameya, follows a Square Enix employee who is reincarnated into a world resembling the beloved game franchise. As of late 2025, the manga has been compiled into multiple tankōbon volumes, marking one of his longest-running and most internationally distributed projects. His work on this series involves a collaborative production process that includes validation from Square Enix staff to ensure fidelity to the game series' lore.
Minase's body of work reveals a career centered on genre fiction with recurring elements of fantasy, supernatural themes, and, in the case of Final Fantasy Lost Stranger, the isekai (other world) narrative framework. His artistic identity is defined by his ability to both create original worlds, as seen in C3, and to effectively navigate and contribute to pre-existing fictional universes such as Fate and Final Fantasy. His significance in the industry stems from this duality, with his work spanning original novel creation, anime screenwriting, and major manga production for one of Japan's most prominent game franchises.
