Shun Matsuena

Description
Shun Matsuena is a Japanese manga artist who has also worked in anime, primarily as a creator and director, with a singular, minor credit as a voice actor. Information about his career is focused on his work as a mangaka, with his involvement in anime stemming directly from his own creations.

Matsuena is most widely known as the author and illustrator of the long-running martial arts manga series History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, which was serialized from 2002 to 2014 and later adapted into an anime television series. His career as a manga artist began after he won Shogakukan's Manga Retsu Award for his story Kishi to Tabibito (The Knight and the Traveller). He officially debuted with the work The Gate to Valhalla in 1996. Other manga series he has created include Tokiwa Kitareri!! and Kimi wa 008.

Matsuena's direct involvement in anime production is most prominently demonstrated by the 2011 project Waza no Tabibito (技の旅人). For this work, he acted as creator, director, writer, and producer of a 31-minute CGI film, which he largely created himself while continuing to serialize his manga. The film was screened at a hobby fair and later released on DVD. It is within this personal project that Matsuena has his only publicly documented voice acting credit, providing the voice for the character Robo. The film's voice cast also included professional voice actors such as Rie Kugimiya and Tomokazu Seki.

Beyond this project, there is no information to suggest Matsuena has pursued a career as a voice actor. His other credits in anime, such as for the Kenichi series, are for his original work as the creator of the source material and for original character design, not for voice performance. While his contributions as a manga artist are substantial and have led to major anime adaptations, his profile as a voice actor is limited to this singular, self-produced role.
