Osamu Ōtake
Description
Osamu Ōtake is a Japanese journalist and manga author, best known as the original creator of the manga and anime series Kentauros no Densetsu. His work is closely tied to motorcycle culture, drawing from his professional background and his connections to the real-world motorcycling community.
Ōtake served as the editor-in-chief of the motorcycle magazine Mr.Bike, which provided him with deep insight into the world of riders and custom machines. His most prominent work, Kentauros no Densetsu, was originally serialized as a manga in Weekly Playboy, a magazine published by Shueisha, in 1981. The story was inspired by his extensive research on an actual motorcycle club named Kentauros, which was established in Yokohama in 1964. The manga was published in two compiled volumes by Shueisha's Playboy Comics imprint in 1981.
In addition to his work in publishing and manga, Ōtake also contributed to the anime adaptation of Kentauros no Densetsu. An anime film based on his original work was produced in 1985, with Ōtake receiving credit as the original creator. While the film was completed in 1985, it was not released in theaters until it was made available on home video in December 1987.
Osamu Ōtake is also known to be the twin brother of Makoto Ōtake, a prominent Japanese comedian and actor.
