Akemi Yamaguchi is a Japanese actress and voice actor born on November 23, 1946, in Osaka Prefecture. Her career has spanned both live-action film and television, as well as voice acting in animation.

Yamaguchi is known for her live-action roles in a variety of Japanese films, particularly during the 1970s. Her filmography from this period includes numerous titles such as "Hirusagari no joji: Uramado" (1972), "Rashamen Oman: Higanbana wa chitta" (1972), and "Sakura no mori no mankai no shita" (1975). She also appeared in television series, with a recurring role in the 1972-1973 series "Hissatsu shikakenin". Her work during this era saw her frequently collaborate with a consistent group of actors, including Akira Takahashi, Hidemi Hara, and Yuri Yamashina, with whom she starred in multiple films.

In the realm of voice acting, Yamaguchi is recognized for her performances as middle-aged women speaking in the Kansai dialect. She provided the voice for the character Yoshie Takemoto, the mother of the protagonist, in the anime series "Jarinko Chie" (known in English as "Chie the Brat"). However, her most prominent and widely recognized voice role is that of the Aunt in the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film "Grave of the Fireflies" (1988). In this film, she voiced the relative who takes in the protagonists, Seita and Setsuko, during the final months of World War II.
