Norio Nishikawa
Description
Norio Nishikawa is a Japanese actor and voice actor. He was born on May 12, 1951, in the Yoshino district of Nara Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the entertainment conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo.
Nishikawa is most recognized in the anime industry for a single, iconic role: providing the voice of Tetsu Takemoto. He played this character, the father of the protagonist Chie, in the 1981 television anime series Jarinko Chie. He reprised the role for the 1981 theatrical film adaptation of the same story. Years later, he returned to the character for the 1991 sequel series, Chie-chan Funsenki Jarinko Chie. This performance as the hapless but affectionate Tetsu is considered by some to be definitive and uniquely suited to the character.
Beyond this prominent voice role, Nishikawa's career has primarily been in live-action. His acting credits span Japanese films and television dramas from the 1980s onward. These include appearances in the Hissatsu series, such as the film Hissatsu! Buraun-kan no kaibutsutachi, where he played Toshizo Hijikata. He also appeared in the film Gorufu yoakemae, again playing Toshizo Hijikata, and in Don Matsugoro no daiboken as a hang glider coach. His television drama credits include roles in series like Nanika Kin'yūdō. He also took on the character role of White Tiger in the tokusatsu puppet drama Take-chan Man.
While his voice acting work is limited, his portrayal of Tetsu Takemoto in the various adaptations of Jarinko Chie remains his most significant and lasting contribution to anime.
