Tone Koken
Description
Tone Koken is the original creator of the Super Cub franchise, which began as a Japanese light novel series before expanding into a manga adaptation and an anime television series. The Super Cub project originated as a web novel serialized online on the Kakuyomu platform from March 2016 to December 2021. This initial web serialization was later adapted into a print light novel series, with the first volume released on May 1, 2017, by Kadokawa Shoten under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. Tone Koken is credited as the sole writer for the light novel series, which features illustrations by the artist Hiro. The series concluded with its eighth volume in April 2022.
The creator is also credited as the original author for the Super Cub manga adaptation, which began serialization online in December 2017 via Kadokawa Shoten's Comic Newtype website. For this adaptation, the illustration duties are handled by the artist Kanitan. The manga remains an ongoing publication with multiple collected tankōbon volumes released.
The Super Cub anime adaptation, produced by Studio Kai, aired from April 7 to June 23, 2021. While Tone Koken is credited as the original creator of the series on which the anime is based, the screenplay and series composition for the anime were handled by Toshizō Nemoto.
The central work, Super Cub, is a slice-of-life story set in the Mukawa area of Hokuto in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The narrative follows a solitary high school girl named Koguma, who has no parents, friends, or hobbies. Her life begins to change after she purchases a used Honda Super Cub 50 motorcycle, which gradually expands her world and leads to new friendships. The series is notable for its detailed focus on motorcycle culture and the Honda Super Cub brand in particular.
Information regarding Tone Koken's personal background, such as biographical details, other original works outside the Super Cub franchise, and broader industry significance, remains unavailable.
