Dráuzio de Oliveira

Description
Dráuzio de Oliveira was a highly respected Brazilian actor and voice actor with a career spanning over seven decades, becoming a prominent figure in the dubbing industry in São Paulo. He began his artistic career in the 1940s and entered the world of television in the 1950s on TV Paulista, acting in numerous live novelas and teletheatres. His transition to dubbing occurred in 1958, starting at the Gravasom studio, and he subsequently worked at a vast number of other studios, including AIC, BKS, Gota Mágica, and Centauro, where he also took on directing roles. He continued to work consistently until his retirement and subsequent passing in 2022 at the age of 92.

While Dráuzio de Oliveira's voice work spanned live-action series, films, and Western animation, he had a significant and varied presence in anime, particularly from the 1990s onwards. One of his most iconic roles for anime fans was as Abel, the villainous brother of Athena, in the feature film Os Cavaleiros do Zodíaco: A Lenda dos Defensores de Atena, first dubbed in 1995 and later redubbed by him for a 2007 DVD release. He also had notable roles in other major series, such as the sword smith Toutousai in InuYasha, Hasan in Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Five-Star Dragon in Dragon Ball GT, Gill in Bakugan: Invasores Gandelianos, and Seijiro Kira in Super Onze.

His work in anime also included a recurring role in the long-running Pokémon series, where he stepped in as the second voice of Professor Carvalho (Professor Samuel Carvalho in the Brazilian version) during the seasons dubbed at the Centauro studio. This connection to a major franchise like Pokémon demonstrates his versatility and the trust placed in him by the dubbing industry. Regarding the user's specific example, Dráuzio de Oliveira did indeed provide the voice for Dr. Spike Taylor in the anime Dinosaur King. However, he was not the primary voice actor for the character. He took over the role temporarily for only two specific episodes, episodes 63 and 64, substituting for the character's regular dublador, Mauro Castro. This brief participation is a testament to his professional reliability, often being called upon for specific needs within a production.

Throughout his career, Dráuzio de Oliveira was known for his long-standing contributions to the craft, often collaborating with the same studios for decades. In his later years, he was frequently associated with Centauro Studios, where he worked until his retirement. Beyond his individual roles, one of his notable achievements was his work on an audiobook project for the blind, developed with the Fundação Para o Livro do Cego in the 1970s, a project he was invited to reprise two decades later. His legacy is that of a foundational voice in Brazilian dubbing, whose extensive filmography left a lasting impression on generations of viewers.
