Jean-Cyprien Chenberg

Description
Jean-Cyprien Chenberg is a French actor primarily known for his work in dubbing, as well as for his performances on stage and on screen. He began his professional journey in dubbing in 2017, entering an established and highly codified industry. His path to this career was built upon a foundation of classical studies, including a Franco-German baccalaureate and a year in preparatory literary classes, followed by three years of training at the École d'Art Dramatique Jean Périmony in Paris. During this time, he simultaneously pursued a university degree in German. His early exposure to the arts also included musical training at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Clermont-Ferrand, where he learned violin and piano.

In the realm of anime and animation, Chenberg is recognized for his voice work on several series and films. He voices the character Shun Kuribayashi, the best friend of the protagonist, in the French adaptation of the popular anime series Rent-A-Girlfriend. He has described the character as a version of himself had he not evolved, reflecting on the role with a sense of personal connection. His other anime credits include participating in the French dub of the Netflix film Bubbles, a anime feature produced by Wit Studio.

Beyond anime, his dubbing career encompasses a wide variety of projects, including live-action series, films, and video games. A notable early role was providing the voice for Bert, the timid intellectual, in the Netflix series Cobra Kai. He has also contributed to major video game franchises such as League of Legends and Fortnite, often lending his voice to characters like soldiers or zombies without always knowing the final context of the game due to strict confidentiality agreements. His film work includes voice contributions to the French dub of the comedy How to Be a Latin Lover.

One of his most personally significant experiences was his involvement in the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Having been a fan of the original animation since childhood, he reached out to Claire Guyot, the original French voice of Ariel who served as the dubbing director, to express his desire to participate. He was subsequently cast as a sailor and also contributed to additional voices. Chenberg, who lives with a motor impairment affecting his legs, felt a deep connection to the project.

In addition to his studio work, Jean-Cyprien Chenberg remains active in theatre and other performance arts. He has performed in various theatrical productions, including an adaptation of Peter Pan and the play Mise en Pièces. He also participates in interdisciplinary projects, such as Les Remarquables, a contemporary dance performance featuring ten artists with disabilities.
