Shelley Calene-Black is an American voice actress recognized for her extensive work in English-language dubs of Japanese anime series and films. Born and raised in Texas, she developed her performance foundation by studying theatre at the University of Houston. Following her education, she gained stage experience in New York City before returning to Houston, where she continued to work with local theatre companies such as the Alley Theatre and Stages Repertory Theatre. Her transition into voice acting for anime was facilitated by friends from the theatre community who were already working at ADV Films and encouraged her to audition.
Calene-Black has built a prolific career, contributing voices for numerous productions associated with major anime distributors including ADV Films, Funimation, and most prominently, Sentai Filmworks. Throughout her career, she has occasionally been credited under the pseudonym Eileen Dover for certain roles.
Her filmography includes a wide array of leading and supporting roles across various genres. She is known for voicing determined and mature female characters, such as Mireille Bouquet in the thriller Noir, Kyou Fujibayashi in the romantic drama Clannad, the titular character in Medaka Box, and Hamyuts Meseta in The Book of Bantorra.
