Kami Hiraiwa

Description
Kami Hiraiwa is a Japanese actress who has also worked as a voice actor in anime productions. Born on November 3, 1979, in Osaka Prefecture, she began her entertainment career in 2000 after passing a新人 audition for the theater group Otona Keikaku, making her debut in a musical. Primarily known for her extensive work in live-action television dramas and films, she is a frequent collaborator with the acclaimed screenwriter Kudo Kankuro. In 2006, she also formed and played the French horn in the brass ensemble band OK.

Hiraiwa first ventured into voice acting in 2011, taking on the lead role in the television anime series Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan. In this unique, omnibus-style anime adaptation of a four-panel comedy manga, she provided the voice for the main character, Ekoda-chan, a free-spirited woman navigating life and romance near Ekoda Station in Tokyo. This role marked a significant expansion of her performance career into animation.

Almost a decade later, Hiraiwa took on another prominent anime voice role in the critically acclaimed feature film ON-GAKU: Our Sound, which was released in 2020. In the film, directed by岩井澤健治, she voiced the character Morita, one of a group of high school delinquents who decide to form a rock band despite having no musical experience. The film itself was a major achievement, having been hand-drawn over seven years and winning the Grand Prize for Feature Animation at the 2019 Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Outside of these two notable anime roles, Hiraiwa's career remains firmly rooted in live-action performance, with a filmography that includes numerous television dramas and films such as Gegege's Wife, Happy Flight, Love My Life, and the 2025 television series Hot Spot. Her role as the voice of Morita in ON-GAKU stands as her most recent major credit in anime.
