Ryota Katayose

Description
Ryota Katayose is a Japanese singer, actor, and voice actor, born on August 29, 1994, in Yao, Osaka, Japan. He is a vocalist for the dance and vocal group GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE, with which he made his major debut in 2012. His entry into the entertainment industry followed his participation in the Vocal Battle Audition 2 in 2010, after which he trained at the EXPG Osaka academy. Prior to his voice acting career, he began acting in live-action television and film, with his debut in the 2014 drama GTO.

Katayose's sole and notable credit as an anime voice actor to date is the lead role of Minato Hinageshi in the 2019 animated film Ride Your Wave. This film, directed by Masaaki Yuasa and produced by Science SARU, marked Katayose's first experience with voice acting. He was cast as the male lead, a 21-year-old firefighter with a strong sense of justice, opposite Rina Kawaei who voiced the female protagonist. His performance contributed to a film that was recognized at several international film festivals, winning the Best Animation award at the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Best Animated Feature award at the Fantasia International Film Festival.

The role was closely tied to his career as a musician, as the film's theme song, Brand New Story, was performed by his group GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE. In his comment about taking on the role, Katayose noted that he approached the work with dedication, learning from the cast and crew to portray his character. Outside of this animated feature, his profile is primarily defined by his extensive work in live-action television dramas, such as Mr. Hiiragi's Homeroom and PRAYERS IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM, and live-action films, including Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight and the PRINCE OF LEGEND series. He is managed by the talent agency LDH.
