Description
Natsumi Eguchi is a Japanese manga artist. She was born in 1983 in Tokyo’s Katsushika ward. Eguchi graduated from the Women’s University of Art, where she majored in Japanese painting in the faculty of art. Before her debut as a manga creator, she worked as an office worker.

Eguchi began her career in 2009 when a work titled The Unusual Yet Ordinary Story earned an honorable mention in the 57th Chiba Tetsuya Awards. The following year, she published her debut work, titled The Way of a Money-Making Demon, in Morning magazine. This short piece, which centered on a demon character originally from a series of works titled Demon, proved to be popular. It was subsequently retitled and became the basis for her first major series, Hōzuki no Reitetsu, which ran in Morning from March 2011 to 2020. This series was collected into 31 volumes. In 2021, Hōzuki no Reitetsu was awarded the Seiun Award for best comic.

Following the conclusion of Hōzuki no Reitetsu, Eguchi began a new series, Dekin no Mogura, in Morning in 2021. As of 2024, nine collected volumes of this series have been released. In addition to her serialized manga, Eguchi has also contributed short works to various magazines, including Monthly Afternoon and LaLa DX. She has also provided illustrations for novels, including the four-volume Taishō Jigoku Roman series by Kazuki Ichita and the Story Masters series by Reiko Hiroshige.

Eguchi has cited the manga artists Shigeru Mizuki and Amin Okada as influences. Her background in Japanese painting is reflected in the distinct visual style and detailed linework of her art. Her work is notable for blending elements of comedy and fantasy, often drawing on themes from Japanese folklore, mythology, and the bureaucracy of the afterlife.
