Ukyō Kodachi
Description
Ukyō Kodachi is a Japanese novelist, manga artist, and screenwriter. He began his professional career by creating tabletop role-playing games before debuting as a novelist in 2008 and as a screenwriter in 2013. Growing up as the son of a physician, he developed an interest in science and science fiction from an early age, and as a student, he was a dedicated player of tabletop RPGs such as Shadowrun and Tokyo NOVA.
Kodachi's first professional writing credit was the novel adaptation of Macross Frontier, published from 2008 to 2009. He has since written several other novels, including Queen's Blade Rebellion, Macross The Ride, and Code Geass: Akito the Exiled. His work as an anime screenwriter began in. Over the following years, he wrote scripts for numerous anime series, including Gunslinger Stratos, Chaos Dragon: Sekiryū Seneki, School-Live!, Danganronpa 3, Macross Delta, Fate/Apocrypha, Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, Midnight Occult Civil Servants, Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files, and Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia.
Kodachi is perhaps best known for his work on the Boruto franchise. In 2015, he assisted Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto with the screenplay for the film Boruto: Naruto the Movie. This collaboration led to him being granted the position of writer for the monthly manga series Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which launched in 2016 with art by Mikio Ikemoto. Kodachi served as the sole writer for the manga from its inception until November 2020, at which point his involvement concluded with the release of the 13th volume, and Masashi Kishimoto took over writing duties beginning with volume 14. During his tenure, the Boruto manga achieved significant commercial success, becoming one of Shueisha's best-selling titles in Japan and performing well in international markets, particularly in North America.
Beyond the Naruto universe, Kodachi created the manga Infini-T Force: Arc to the Future, which was serialized in Monthly Hero's from 2015 to 2020 and illustrated by Tatsuma Ejiri. In 2024, he began work on a new manga series, Ato 365 Hi no Dinner, serialized in Champion Red, with story composition by Tsunaki Suda and art by Sonshō Hangetsuban. His broader body of work also includes writing the light novel Naruto: Gaara Hiden: A Sandstorm Mirage.
Kodachi has also been publicly vocal about issues affecting the manga industry, including taking a stand against manga piracy and highlighting the long working hours faced by manga creators.
