Catherine Connet

Description
Catherine Connet is a Belgian actress and voice actress, renowned for her extensive work in the French-language dubbing of animated series and films. Born on April 19, 1968, in Louvain, she began her career in theater after graduating from the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles with a Premier Prix d'Art Dramatique in 1991. Her entry into voice work came through a theater colleague who recommended her for dubbing, leading to her first role in the children's animated series Cococinel.

Connet is best known for her long-standing role as Jessie, a member of the villainous Team Rocket trio, in the long-running anime series Pokémon. She has voiced the character for over two decades, across nearly all episodes from the first season through to series like Pokémon Sun & Moon and Pokémon Journeys, as well as in numerous films. This extensive body of work includes the 2019 CGI remake film, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, where she reprised her role as Jessie. In addition to her work as Jessie, Connet also provided the voice for Ash Ketchum's mother, Delia Ketchum, in the early seasons of the series. Reflecting on her time with the franchise, she noted in an interview that the team originally expected to produce only around twelve episodes, a testament to the unexpected and enduring global success of the show.

Beyond Pokémon, Connet's career encompasses a wide array of significant voice roles in anime and animation. Her notable credits include Cammy in Street Fighter II V, Nakoruru in Samurai Shodown, Sasami and Aeka in Tenchi Muyo, and Eiko Shimao in Millennium Actress. She also lent her voice to the character Ororo Munroe / Storm in Wolverine and the X-Men and Ophelia Sarkissian / Madame Hydra in X-Men: Evolution. In European animation, she is the voice of the hippopotamus teacher Madame Gazelle in the popular children's series Peppa Pig and the headmistress Griffin in Winx Club. Her film work in animation also includes the role of Nefertiti in the 2005 feature La Reine soleil.

While her dubbing work is prolific, Connet's career is not limited to voice acting. She has remained active in Belgian theater, performing on stages such as the Théâtre royal du Parc and the Abbaye de Villers-la-Ville, where she has taken on roles in classical plays, including the title role in Victor Hugo's Lucrèce Borgia. She has also worked as a voice on Belgian radio stations like Nostalgie. In recent years, Connet has been an outspoken advocate for voice actors' rights, expressing concern about the impact of artificial intelligence on the profession and her involvement with the Belgian voice actors' collective, BELVA.
