Moriko Mori

Description
Moriko Mori is a Japanese manga author known primarily as the writer of the series Gal & Dino (also known as My Roomie Is a Dino). Beyond this notable work, Mori has created several other manga series and one-shots, often with a focus on slice-of-life and comedic narratives.

Mori was born on October 11, 1988. They are married to manga artist Cota Tomimura, with whom they have frequently collaborated.

Mori’s most prominent work is Gal & Dino, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine on October 15, 2018. For this series, Mori is credited as the writer, while Cota Tomimura handled the illustrations. The story follows a gyaru named Kaede who begins living with a dinosaur, chronicling their surreal and humorous daily life. The manga concluded on January 24, 2022, and was compiled into seven tankōbon volumes. The series was subsequently licensed for an English digital release by Kodansha USA.

The success of the manga led to a multimedia adaptation. An anime television series, co-animated by Space Neko Company and Kamikaze Douga, premiered on April 5, 2020, with Jun Aoki directing. A live-action drama adaptation also premiered on the same day, running for three episodes. The anime was licensed for streaming by Funimation (now Crunchyroll) under the title Gal & Dino.

In addition to Gal & Dino, Mori has been credited as the author and artist for other works. They contributed to the 2020 anthology project MANGA Day to Day, a collection of short manga created by various artists in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other manga credited to Mori include Makezugirai na Pochama to Ganko na Shousetsuka, which was published in 2021, and Safe Sex, a series that began in 2023. They have also released several one-shot stories.

Mori’s artistic identity is largely defined by a blend of slice-of-life comedy and absurdist humor, a tone effectively captured in the daily antics of a woman and her dinosaur roommate. Their work in the industry is marked by a successful transition from a serialized manga to a simultaneous anime and live-action adaptation, highlighting the broad appeal of their storytelling.
