Ranjō Miyake
Description
Ranjō Miyake is a Japanese manga artist born in Hokkaido in 1966. After graduating from the Vantan Design Institute Academy and working for an apparel company, Miyake made her debut as a manga creator in 1998.
Miyake is best known as the original creator of the manga series Pet. This work, a supernatural suspense story, was serialized in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits from 2002 to 2003. The series was compiled into five tankōbon volumes, and a remastered edition was later released by Enterbrain in 2009. The plot of Pet centers on individuals with the psychic ability to manipulate memories, who are employed as operatives by a secretive organization.
The manga was adapted into a thirteen-episode anime television series produced by Geno Studio. Directed by Takahiro Omori with scripts by Sadayuki Murai, the anime adaptation of Pet was broadcast from January 6 to March 30, 2020, on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X, and was streamed worldwide by Amazon Prime.
Beyond Pet, Miyake's other representative works include Bussen and IMURI. Her body of work is noted for its wide range, encompassing both comedic gag manga and more serious, dramatic narratives, all characterized by a unique outlook on the world.
