Waka Kakitsubata

Description
Waka Kakitsubata is a Japanese manga artist and original creator, primarily known for the romantic comedy series My Sweet Tyrant. Kakitsubata made their professional manga debut in June 2013 with Akkun to Kanojo, the series that would later be adapted as My Sweet Tyrant. This work was serialized in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine, a publication that targets a josei demographic. The series concluded its original run in June 2018, and its chapters were compiled into eight tankōbon volumes published by Media Factory.

Kakitsubata’s most prominent work is My Sweet Tyrant, which follows the daily life of Atsuhiro “Akkun” Kagari, a boy with a tsundere personality who struggles to express his deep affection for his girlfriend, Non “Nontan” Katagiri, often behaving in a harsh or stalker-like manner while she remains warmly oblivious. The series’ success led to an anime adaptation produced by Yumeta Company, which aired as a short-form television series of 25 four-minute episodes from April to September 2018. In this adaptation, Kakitsubata was credited as the original creator.

Following the conclusion of My Sweet Tyrant, Kakitsubata launched a new series titled Oitsukenaishi Modorenai in April 2018 on the LINE Manga service as part of Kadokawa’s Gene LINE label. This manga centers on the relationship between a handsome 38-year-old cafe manager and a level-headed high school girl who works part-time at his establishment. Kakitsubata has continued to be active, with a steady output of manga titles listed in publication databases, including works released as recently as 2023, indicating a consistent career as a creator within the industry. The body of work is characterized by romantic comedy themes, often exploring the dynamics of relationships with a focus on character-driven humor.
