Tadataka Kawasaki

Description
Tadataka Kawasaki, also known by the Japanese name 川崎直孝, is a Japanese manga artist recognized as the original creator of the comedy series Chio's School Road. He is male and has also used the alias K no ji in his professional career.

Kawasaki is best known as the author and illustrator of Chio's School Road, which was serialized in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine. The series ran from April 5, 2014, to September 5, 2018, and was compiled into nine tankobon volumes published between September 2014 and September 2018. The manga is licensed in English by Yen Press. The story follows high school student Chio Miyamo on her chaotic and often absurd daily commute to school, a simple premise that leads to a variety of comedic situations involving friends, biker gangs, and parkour.

Based on this manga, a twelve-episode anime television series adaptation, also titled Chio's School Road, was produced by the studio Diomedéa. The anime aired from July to September 2018, with Takayuki Inagaki serving as director and writer. Kawasaki is officially credited as the original creator of the work on which the anime is based.

Beyond his most famous work, Kawasaki has created other manga and one-shot stories. His earlier works include titles such as Tsuitekimasu! from 2010, Shinobi Gataki from 2012, and A to E no Aida. He also produced several one-shot chapters in 2013 and 2014, including Keisan Suru made mo Nai and Koko wa Kasugai Mura. A later work is Oshimai, published in February 2020. His career extends back to at least 2008 with the doujinshi School Girls.

Kawasaki's artistic identity is strongly tied to absurdist and situational comedy, often drawing from the mundane aspects of daily life and exaggerating them into extraordinary adventures. His writing in Chio's School Road is noted for its frequent and clever references to video games, which the protagonist uses as a framework to navigate real-world problems. This blend of otaku culture, slapstick humor, and the antics of a quirky cast of characters defines his most significant contribution to the industry. The success of Chio's School Road, both as a manga and an anime, established Kawasaki as a notable voice in the seinen comedy genre.
