Nobumi

Description
Nobumi, also written in Japanese as のぶみ, is a Japanese picture book author, manga artist, and original creator for anime. He was born on April 4, 1978, in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan. Nobumi is best known as the original creator of the anime television series Uchi no Oochopus, which aired in 2018. The series is a short-form comedy about a mysterious creature named Oochopus who becomes part of a young family's household. His credit as the original creator for this anime is well-documented in production records.

Beyond this anime, Nobumi has an extensive career as a prolific picture book author, having published well over one hundred titles. He made his debut in 1999 with the picture book Boku to Nabeo, published by Kodansha. His body of work includes numerous popular series for children, such as the Boku, Kamen Rider ni Naru! series, which adapts characters from the Kamen Rider franchise into picture book format, as well as the Sentai Kazoku series based on Super Sentai shows. His original picture book Mama ga Obake ni Nacchatta, a story about a mother's love that continues after her death, became a bestseller in Japan.

His artistic identity is rooted in creating works for young children, often focusing on themes of family, everyday life, and adventure, frequently incorporating licensed characters from popular Japanese superhero franchises. Nobumi began his career with no formal art training. After meeting a woman who loved picture books, he taught himself to draw and write, studying thousands of existing picture books and creating hundreds of his own manuscripts before his debut. He married that woman, who became the inspiration for his career. His background is highly unconventional for a creator of children's media; as a youth, he was a leader of a bōsōzoku (motorcycle gang) with a large number of members and was arrested multiple times. This history stands in stark contrast to his later success as a beloved creator of content for young audiences.
