Description
Piero Karasu is the Japanese author and creator of the light novel and manga series The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady. He began his writing career by posting stories on the user-generated content website Shosetsuka ni Narou, also known as Let's Become a Novelist. His breakout work, The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess, was first serialized as a web novel on this platform in February 2019 and concluded its main story in June 2020.
The success of the web novel led to a print publication deal with the publisher Kadokawa, which began releasing the story as a light novel in January 2020 under its Fantasia Bunko imprint. The light novel features illustrations by artist Yuri Kisaragi. This series is Karasu's most notable and recognized work. The story follows Princess Anisphia, who is reincarnated with memories of her past life and uses this knowledge to develop a unique magical theory called magicology, defying the expectations of her kingdom's aristocracy.
In addition to this series, Piero Karasu is also the author of another light novel series titled Seijō-sensei no Mahō wa Susunderu!, which translates to The Saint Teacher's Witchcraft Is Progressive!. This series, also illustrated by Yuri Kisaragi, began publication in February 2024 and follows a powerful saint who becomes a teacher after being banished from the royal capital.
The creator's work has been adapted into multiple media. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess has been adapted into a manga series, drawn by artist Harutsugu Nadaka, which began serialization in July 2020. A television anime adaptation of the series premiered in Japan in January 2023, produced by the animation studio Diomedéa. The light novel and its manga adaptation have been licensed for English release by Yen Press.
From interviews, Piero Karasu has expressed a deep affection for the isekai genre, describing it as familiar, dreamlike, and a fitting form of entertainment for daily life. He has stated that his favorite anime are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, citing them as major influences. Regarding his own writing philosophy, he has emphasized the importance of being sincere about the story and what one wants to convey, and that a creator must be able to believe in the quality of their own work regardless of public evaluation. He has also spoken about the value of observing the world and other people to deepen one's imagination for creating fictional worlds.
