Takemura first gained recognition with his art on Ice Revolution, a manga series written by Ami Tei that was serialized in the late 2000s. He subsequently served as the artist for the manga adaptation of the light novel Listen to Me, Girls, I Am Your Father!, with original story by Tomohiro Matsu, which ran from 2011 to 2012. This period also saw him illustrate Yae no Sakura, a manga adaptation of the NHK television drama of the same name, which was serialized from 2012 to 2013. In the mid-2010s, he both wrote and illustrated the original series Nightmare Funk, which was published in collected volumes from 2014 to 2015.

Takemura’s most significant and widely recognized work to date is Chained Soldier, known in Japan as Mato Seihei no Slave. He has served as the illustrator for this manga since its debut on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ platform in January 2019, with Takahiro, the writer of Akame ga Kill!, as the credited writer. The series became a commercial success, with over 5.5 million copies in circulation by June 2025, and its popularity led to a two-season anime adaptation that first aired in early 2024.

As an artist, Takemura’s work on Chained Soldier defines his public identity, showcasing his ability to design dynamic action sequences and a large cast of character designs within a fantasy setting. His career demonstrates a specialization in visual adaptation and collaboration, bringing narrative concepts to life through manga illustration.
