He is based in the United States and has a substantial background in theatre, film, and television acting in addition to his voice-over career.

Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for the Screen and Stage from Point Park University. His acting training is extensive, having studied at institutions such as the California Institute of the Arts, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the Larry Moss Studio, among others. In the realm of anime dubbing, Alvarez is most notably recognized for his role as Yuya Kanzaki in the Netflix original series A.I.C.O. -Incarnation-. He provided the voice for this character in the initial English dub produced by IYUNO Media Group in 2018. Beyond this prominent role, his anime dubbing filmography includes the long-running series Gintama, where he voiced characters Tatsuma Sakamoto and Tokumori Saigō. He also took on the title role in Super Shiro, providing the voice for the main character. Other anime credits include the 2018 web anime Mecha-Ude, for which he voiced the character Fist and provided additional voices, and a role as the narrator in the Crayon Shin-chan Spin-off series. His voice-over work also extends to live-action dubbing for television, including projects for networks such as HBO Latino, Univision, and Telemundo.

In addition to his voice acting, Alex Alvarez is an award-winning stage actor. He has received a Carbonell Award and a Silver Palm Award for his theatrical performances and was named Best Supporting Actor by the Broward/Palm Beach New Times in 2012.
