Manta Aisora

Description
Manta Aisora is the original creator of the light novel series Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, which serves as the foundation for the various anime adaptations including Haiyoru! Nyaruani, Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Mr. Lovecraft, the television series Nyaruko: Crawling with Love, and the original video animation Haiyore! Nyaruko-san F.

Aisora is credited as the author of the original work, known in Japanese as gensaku, for the franchise. The light novel series began publication on April 15, 2009, and concluded on March 17, 2014, spanning twelve volumes released by Soft Bank Creative under their GA Bunko imprint. The series is illustrated by artist Koin.

The central work, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, is a romantic comedy that draws its inspiration from the Cthulhu Mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft. The narrative reimagines Lovecraftian deities as extraterrestrial beings, with the protagonist Nyaruko being a form of the chaos god Nyarlathotep who appears as a silver-haired girl. The story follows the chaotic life of a human high school student, Mahiro Yasaka, who finds himself protected by and living with Nyaruko and other alien beings based on entities such as Cthugha and Hastur.

Beyond the original light novels, Aisora’s creative involvement extended into the franchise’s early anime adaptations. For the first flash animated original video animation, Haiyoru! Nyaruani, produced by studio DLE, Manta Aisora is credited with the screenplay. Aisora also shared writing credits for the subsequent flash anime television series, Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Mr. Lovecraft.

The franchise saw two manga adaptations for which Aisora is credited as the original story author. The first, illustrated by Kei Okazaki, was serialized in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump magazine from May 6, 2011, to April 10, 2013. The second, titled Haiyore! Super Nyaruko-chan Time, was illustrated by Sōichirō Hoshino and ran in Flex Comix’s Flex Comix Blood magazine from October 5, 2011, to November 12, 2014.

Manta Aisora’s artistic identity is defined by a blend of comedy, parody, and romantic elements set against a framework of cosmic horror lore. The work is noted for its extensive use of parody, referencing other anime, television programs, and cultural touchstones, while maintaining a central romantic comedy plot about a human in an unwanted relationship with a powerful, love-struck alien. This approach to the Cthulhu Mythos, transforming its entities into comedic and otaku-culture-obsessed characters, became a defining characteristic of the franchise.
