Hiroshi Fukuda

Description
Hiroshi Fukuda is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the original works behind the anime series Mushibugyō and Rock wa Lady no Tashinamideshite. Born on February 13, 1978, Fukuda is a student of veteran manga artist Kazuhiro Fujita and previously worked as a chief assistant on Fujita’s series Karakuri Circus.

Fukuda made his debut as a creator with Mushibugyō, a series that began serialization in Shogakukan’s Shonen Sunday Super magazine in August 2009 and concluded in September 2010, with its story compiled into three book volumes. He subsequently launched a revamped version titled Jōjū Senjin!! Mushibugyō, which ran from January 2011 to September 2017 and was collected in 32 volumes. This second iteration served as the basis for a 26-episode television anime adaptation produced by Seven Arcs Pictures that aired in 2013, followed by three original video anime episodes released with later manga volumes.

Following the conclusion of Mushibugyō, Fukuda created the manga Gofun-go no Sekai, which was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 2018 to 2019. His next major work, Rock wa Lady no Tashinamideshite, began serialization in Hakusensha’s seinen manga magazine Young Animal on October 28, 2022. This series, which follows a young girl navigating the conflict between the expectations of a prestigious all-girls school and her passion for rock music, has been collected into multiple volumes, with seven volumes released as of March 2025. An anime television adaptation produced by Bandai Namco Pictures premiered in April 2025, with direction by Shinya Watada and series composition by Shogo Yasukawa.

Across his body of work, Fukuda’s artistic identity spans both action-oriented narratives and character-driven music dramas. While Mushibugyō is a historical fantasy centered on insect-hunting warriors, Rock wa Lady no Tashinamideshite focuses on themes of self-expression and rebellion against social expectations within a contemporary school setting. The latter manga received a notable recommendation from Aki Hamaji, the creator of Bocchi the Rock!, highlighting its resonance within the music-themed manga genre. Fukuda’s consistent role as both writer and illustrator on these serialized works underscores his significance as an original creator whose manga have successfully transitioned into major anime productions.
