Hailee Steinfeld began her voice acting career in animation with the English-language dub of the Studio Ghibli film When Marnie Was There, released in 2014 and 2015. In the film, she voiced the protagonist, Anna Sasaki, a shy and withdrawn twelve-year-old girl who is sent to live with relatives in a small seaside town. This role marked her entry into voice acting for animation.

Steinfeld subsequently took on prominent voice roles in major animated productions. She is known for voicing Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Woman, in the animated Spider-Verse film series. She first played the character in the 2018 Academy Award-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and reprised the role in its 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Her performance as Gwen is noted for bringing depth and energy to the character. She also voices Vi, a central character in the critically acclaimed Netflix animated series Arcane, which is based on the League of Legends video game franchise. She has voiced the character since the series debuted in 2021.
