Daisuke Arakubo
Description
Daisuke Arakubo is a manga artist and creator known primarily for work tied to the Japanese video game company Nihon Falcom. Arakubo came to prominence with the four-panel yonkoma comedy manga Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen, which was serialized in Field Y’s Falcom Magazine beginning in 2010 to celebrate Falcom’s 30th anniversary. The series ran until 2015 and was collected in four tankōbon volumes released between July 2012 and October 2015. The premise revolves around characters from Falcom’s prominent game franchises, such as Ys and Trails, interacting in a school setting, blending parody and slice-of-comedy elements. Arakubo’s work on this property extended to a sequel series, Motto Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen, which began publication in November 2017.
The success of the original manga led to anime adaptations. Arakubo is credited as the original creator for the anime television series Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen, which aired 13 short episodes from January to March 2014, produced by studios chara-ani and Dax Production. A second season, Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen SC, followed from January to March 2015, with Arakubo again receiving the original creator credit. These anime adaptations maintained the comedic tone of the source material, with each episode typically running two minutes.
Beyond the Falcom franchise, Arakubo contributed to the anthology manga Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Wonderful, a collection of stories based on the Higurashi When They Cry series, which was published in July 2011. This contribution demonstrates engagement with other established properties through short-form comedic or anthology work. The body of Arakubo’s known work centers on yonkoma comedy, often utilizing crossover settings that bring together characters from existing game or narrative universes for humorous effect.
