Barbara Adolph is a German actress and voice artist, born on June 8, 1931, in Schneidemühl, Germany, which is now Piła, Poland. Her career has primarily been rooted in German theatre, film, and television, with her voice work largely focused on dubbing international productions for the German-speaking market. Adolph's extensive performance background includes an eighteen-year engagement as a stage actress at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. In addition to her stage work, she built a substantial career in front of the camera, appearing in numerous German film and television productions from the 1950s onwards. Some of her on-screen roles include parts in films such as The Condemned Village in 1952 and Domino in 1982. As a voice artist, Adolph is best known for her dubbing work, lending her voice to many acclaimed international actresses for the German versions of their films. Among the Hollywood stars she has dubbed are Sophia Loren, Vanessa Redgrave, Liv Ullmann, Louise Fletcher, Lauren Bacall, and Gena Rowlands. Her work in animation and dubbing for anime includes providing the German voice for the character Sawako in her older age for the film Giovanni's Island. She also voiced the character Großmutter, or Grandmother, in the 2001 animated film The Little Polar Bear. Her career is distinguished by its longevity and her significant contribution to German theatre and the art of dubbing.
