Beate Gerlach is a German dialogue book author, dubbing director, and voice actress. She was born in Magdeburg and began performing in theatre at the age of eleven. Her acting career has spanned over three decades, taking her to stages across Germany and Luxembourg. Since the late 1980s, she has been active as a voice actress, lending her voice to numerous characters in film and television. Beyond her work in front of the microphone, Gerlach is also professionally involved in writing dialogue scripts and directing dubbing for German-language versions of foreign productions.

In the realm of anime and animation, Gerlach is prominently known as the German voice of the character Joushuu Kasei. She first voiced the role in the Psycho-Pass film in 2015 and continued it in subsequent installments, including the Sinners of the System film series and the original Psycho-Pass television series. Her work in animation also includes voicing the spider Thekla in the 2014 film Die Biene Maja - Der Film and providing the voice for Emma in the 2018 film Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver.

Her extensive voice work, however, is predominantly in live-action dubbing. With over 180 credited voice roles, she has become the regular German voice for a wide range of internationally renowned actresses. These include dame Judi Dench, Lillias White, Sandy Martin, and Olympia Dukakis. Her filmography features a diverse array of roles, such as providing the voice for the character Diva in the film Das fünfte Element in 1997, for Claudia Cardinale's character in Effie Gray, for Shohreh Aghdashloo's Oracle in Percy Jackson: Im Bann des Zyklopen, and for Whoopi Goldberg's Ursula in Descendants 2 - Die Nachkommen. Her work also extends to television series, where she has voiced characters in shows like Supernatural, Blue Bloods, and Hacks.

Gerlach is also recognized as a narrator for audio plays, such as those in the Gruselkabinett series, and as a speaker for commercial advertising. Her distinctive voice has contributed to a high recognition value across different media.
