Description
Takumi Miyajima is a freelance scenario writer known for her work in the anime, manga, and video game industries. She is particularly recognized for her contributions to the Tales series of role-playing games and for creating the original anime and manga project Goulart Knights.
Miyajima first gained prominence as a writer for video games. She worked on the scenarios for the critically acclaimed titles Tales of Symphonia in 2003 and Tales of the Abyss, establishing a long-standing association with the franchise. Her involvement with Tales of Symphonia extended to its sequel, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, where she served as the primary writer, developing the story and its new characters. Her other video game writing credits include Coded Soul -Uketsugareshi Idea-.
In 2009, Miyajima was credited as the original creator and conceiver of Goulart Knights, a multimedia project produced by the music label Lantis. This was Lantis's first original animation project. The story, set in a world where humanity is threatened by creatures called Archons, follows a special unit of knights who wield a power known as the Chalice. Miyajima conceived the project, and it was illustrated by the artist sion. The project encompassed a one-shot manga, drama CDs, and eventually two original video animations: Goulart Knights: Evoked the Beginning Black in 2010 and Goulart Knights: Evoked the Beginning White in 2011, for which Miyajima was credited as the original creator and planner.
Beyond her original creations, Miyajima has also worked as a screenwriter for anime adaptations. She is credited with writing the scripts for all 25 episodes of the television anime Fate/Zero, which aired in 2011 and 2012. Her other anime screenplay credits include episodes of Senki Zesshou Symphogear AXZ in 2017 and the film Majokko Shimai no Yoyo to Nene in 2013. She also served in supervisory or special thanks roles for anime adaptations of games she had worked on, such as Tales of the Abyss and the Tales of Symphonia OVA series.
In interviews, Miyajima has discussed her creative process and thematic interests, particularly regarding her work on the Tales series. She has spoken about the importance of character dynamics, such as creating the timid protagonist Emil and the assertive heroine Marta as opposites, and the challenges of writing a sequel that respected the original game’s characters while introducing new ones. She also highlighted the role of scenario writing in games with affection systems, which allow player choice to influence character relationships. Her work on Goulart Knights, a project that integrated music, voice acting, and animation from its inception, demonstrates her involvement in cross-media storytelling.
