Aya Kawakami is a Japanese voice actress affiliated with the talent agency Ken Production. She was born in Tokyo and her birthdate is September 1. She is a graduate of Meiji University, where she majored in theater studies within the Faculty of Letters. During her university years, she conducted research on idol culture. Prior to university, she was a member of her school's brass band and orchestra, playing percussion instruments. Kawakami completed her voice acting training at the School Duo and officially joined Ken Production in April 2015.

Her early anime roles included minor characters in series such as Pac-World and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. She gained wider recognition for her long-running role as Inko Midoriya in the series My Hero Academia. Another notable anime role is Randgrid in the Netflix series Record of Ragnarok. Randgrid performs a Völundr with the human warrior Lü Bu, transforming into his halberd, the Sky Piercer. Her other television anime credits include appearances in Detective Conan, Sword Art Online: Alicization, The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls, and the 2023 series Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure.

Beyond anime, Kawakami has an extensive portfolio in video game voice acting and dubbing for foreign films and television series. Her game credits include titles such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Dragon Quest X, Pokémon Masters, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. In dubbing, she has provided the Japanese voice for characters in productions including the Fantastic Beasts films, the film Bloodshot, and the animated series Miraculous Ladybug, where she voices Alya / Rena Rouge. She is also known for her narration and voice-over work on documentaries and variety programs.

Kawakami is known for her versatile vocal range. Her personal interests include playing drums and other percussion instruments, swimming, and visiting Buddhist statues. She is also an enthusiast of Japanese idols and holds a Level 2 certification in bookkeeping.
