Ruka Matsuda
Description
Ruka Matsuda is a Japanese entertainer whose career encompasses acting, voice acting, modeling, and television hosting. She was born on October 30, 1995, in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, and is affiliated with the talent agency Grick. Her professional journey began in her hometown when she was in the fifth grade after being scouted by local media. During high school, she worked as a host on the Ryukyu Asahi Broadcasting program Decotele, and it was the show's producer who encouraged her to move to Tokyo to pursue entertainment full-time. It was at this point she began using the stage name Ruka Matsuda.
As a voice actor, Matsuda is recognized for her role as Nanao Kyan in the Okinawa-set anime series Haitai Nanafa. She voiced the character of Nao, the beautiful high school-aged older sister in the Kyan family, across both the first and second seasons of the show, which aired in 2012 and 2013. This role was one of her earliest regular voice acting credits. Following this, she lent her voice to the 2015 television anime Denpa Kyoushi, where she voiced several minor characters, including Midori, a female student, and a class monitor. She also had a minor role as an audience member in an episode of Aikatsu Stars! in 2017.
Beyond animation, Matsuda's voice work extends to video games. Her game credits include voicing a character named Dorothy in Eternal Dungeon in 2018, Apollo in Wonder Gravity: Pino to Juuryokusha in 2019, and Chloe in Memories of Link, also in 2019. A significant portion of her career is also tied to the role of Poppy Pipopapo, the character she portrayed in live-action in the Kamen Rider Ex-Aid franchise. This role led to her voicing the same character in the Kamen Rider Battle Ganbarizing game in 2017 and performing character songs for the series.
While her voice acting portfolio is notable, Matsuda is perhaps best known for her extensive work as a live-action actress. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of the character Poppy Pipopapo / Fake Asuna in the 2016-2017 tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, a role she has reprised in subsequent films and specials. She is also known for her role as Kōgetsu Sumeragi in the live-action adaptations of the Kakegurui franchise, appearing in the television series and films starting in 2018. Her other live-action credits include the television series初恋艺人, So I'm Pushing You, and女子美食汉堡部, as well as the film adaptations of Back Street Girls. Her achievements include starring in her first lead film role in the 2022 movie芦屋の供餐.
