Rusty Soul

Description
Rusty Soul is a Japanese manga author and screenwriter whose professional career has been documented since approximately 2005. His birth date is listed as September 17, though the year is not publicly recorded. Rusty Soul is best known as the original creator of the manga series Brandish, which was later adapted into an original video animation (OVA) series.

Rusty Soul frequently collaborates with the artist oruto seneka, with whom he co-founded the doujin circle VENOM. The partnership began after Rusty Soul established a tabletop role-playing game club with friends during high school, which led to the production of replay books as doujinshi. This background in collaborative storytelling informed his later work as a manga author and scriptwriter.

The manga Brandish, which features story by Rusty Soul and art by oruto seneka, was serialized in Kill Time Communication's Comic Unreal magazine from January 2007 to July 2014. The series was published across six collected volumes and is noted as an unusually long-running work within the adult manga category. The story follows Twiska, the daughter of the Demon King who is a succubus, and her complicated relationship with Theo, a boy who carries the blood of a legendary hero. An OVA adaptation of Brandish was released in two parts on June 22, 2012 and August 24, 2012. Rusty Soul also wrote the script for a Brandish drama CD released on December 24, 2008.

Beyond Brandish, Rusty Soul has created several other original works as a story writer. His first published manga was the Savior Witch Miki, released on December 27, 2006 with art by oruto seneka. He created Sengoku!? ~Yukyu Ransei Renka Tan~, a five-volume series serialized in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age from 2009 to 2012. This work represents a departure into non-adult manga, sometimes referred to as a mainstream or general-audience title. Additional original manga credits include Koi Iro Alternative, serialized from 2017 in Comic BAVEL, as well as Curse Eater and Eat Meat Girl, both released in 2018. Rusty Soul has also worked as a scriptwriter for the series Shoku Oni Aliens Meet Girls, which began serialization in 2019 based on an original concept by Inaba Shinji.

The body of work credited to Rusty Soul primarily falls within the genres of seinen manga and adult-oriented comics. His professional identity is firmly established as a writer and original creator rather than an illustrator, as all major publications list him as the story author or scriptwriter with collaborating artists handling the artwork. The adaptation of Brandish into an OVA and drama CD demonstrates the expansion of his original concepts into other media formats within the anime industry.
