Aloha Higa

Description
Aloha Higa is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the series Polar Bear Café, also known as Shirokuma Cafe. Higa was born in Kyoto Prefecture on February 10 and made a professional debut in 2006. The debut work was a one-shot version of Polar Bear Café, which was published in the April issue of Monthly Flowers and won the 22nd Silver Flower Award in the magazine's comic audition.

Polar Bear Café is Higa's primary and most recognized work. The series began serialization in Monthly Flowers in 2006 and follows the daily lives of animals and humans who frequent a café run by a polar bear. The original manga ran until 2013, with five tankōbon volumes published by Shogakukan. A sequel series, Polar Bear Café Today's Special, began serialization in Shueisha's Cocohana magazine in 2014.

In 2012, the original Polar Bear Café manga was adapted into a 50-episode anime television series produced by Studio Pierrot. The production of the anime became a notable point in Higa's career. During the spring of 2012, Higa announced on social media that the manga would go on an indefinite hiatus, citing a breakdown in communication with the editorial department concerning the anime adaptation. The series resumed in the September 2012 issue of Monthly Flowers following a resolution of the issues.

Higa also published a short work titled Paddle Out in the magazine Rinka in 2007 and provided cover illustrations for the educational journal Sogo Kyoiku Gijutsu from 2010 to 2011. In addition to manga creation, Higa has worked as a part-time lecturer at Osaka Designers' College.
